Argument

Should NCAA athlete be paid?
There cases against them being paid and cases saying that they should.

You could say that they should be paid for the simple fact that the college makes money off of them. Colleges and stores makes tons of money by selling jerseys, and the player will never see any of it. Think about how many college jerseys you see people walking around in representing there favorite player on there favorite team, now think how much money those jerseys or shirts cost each? Do the math and the stores and colleges selling those are making tons of money! So since the players are the reason why that jersey or shirt is selling they deserve a cut of that, if it weren't for them they money wouldn't be made. Now think about the money they make showing the games on tv, television stations are making tons of money and get way more viewers just because there showing theses players play! The players also deserve a cut of that money too don't they since after all if it wasn't for them there would be no game to watch on tv. The tickets to the games make millions of dollars every year too, the players see none of that and there the only reason there's a game to buy tickets to! Then there's the video games, NCAA games are one of the most popular games they make play station, xbox, all the owners of these company's millions of dollars. Once again with out the players there is no game so even the people making video games are profiting off of these players who see none of this money at all. Players go on that court and put there bodies on the line, and there not being paid. There is also the case that, how is a player going to buy things such as food cloths etc. if he has no job? Players are not aloud to have a job during the season in order to have all there focus on the sport. So how is a player going to buy all those necessary items? How are they going to pay rent or anything if they live off campus? Gas money, car bills, phone bills, all these things cost money, money a player is not aloud to make during season but still has to pay for. Everything in this world today cost money, not everyone has parents that can pay for them or other ways of paying for these things with out a job. So what do we do about those people? Do we just let them struggle to survive during the season? So not only are these players having money made off of them all the time they are also making no money to survive on.
Then there are the argument of why they should not be paid. Most of the players are there on scholarship. That should be payment enough free education and sometimes housing depending on your scholarship level. Some scholarships provide food money and bill money. But what about the others that don't, how are they going to survive? And once again most NCAA athletes on are scholarship, but that's not all. The people with out the higher scholarships have to struggle. You hear the broke college kid budget joke all the time and that's about all students and they can have jobs and are still struggling imagine trying that with out a job. What about the students that are walk ons, paying for school no scholarship but are good at the sport and made the team, now there paying for school and everything else on top of that with no job! Sounds next to impossible. Student athletes may end up taking loans to pay for everything, sounds good sounds easy no big deal. Wrong! Every time you get a loan your getting more in debt and after the interest on the loan adds on more and more your still getting more in debt all just to play for a school making money on your name and number, on you. NCAA athletes get in tons of trouble, fined, kicked out of school ect. If they sell anything of theirs while there still In college, but it's ok for everyone else to make money off of you? College players should be paid, not millions like the pros not a whole bunch of money and all the glam but enough to survive with out going in debt, enough to live off.

Response

Response essay

Chase Newman

Why do you think people start smoking? If you smoke why did you start? If everyone talks about how bad it is and wish they never started why did they start knowing its bad for them?

Some people say it's because the look and social effect. But why does smoking look cool? Shaking a cigarette out of a pack and placing it between your lips, bending over and shielding the flame from the wind when lighting up, taking a long drag and exhaling sideways while in a deep thought or appear to be in deep thought. Or maybe it's just looks cool cause it's what everyone is doing, or maybe even the bad boy effect it has? What ever the reasons that make it look cool, everyone wants to look cool and fit in right? If everyone around you is smoking and your the only one not smoking would you feel like you don't fit in? Would it be much easier to accept the offer to smoke if you were the only one without a cigarette in your whole group? So maybe that's the reason people begin to smoke, to fit in or look cool. It could be the whole life style too. If the people you role model to be like or the look your going for, a lot of different cultures of people smoke if the look or culture of people your going for smokes it could make you want to in Oder for you to complete that look or live that life style. Celebs have a great effect on it to as a little kid or even now if you see your favorite athlete, actor, or singer smoking you might think its cool and ok to do just because of that like there where they are today and they smoke maybe I can be like them if I smoke it wouldn't hold me back from achieving what I want they smoke and made it.

Or maybe it's because of another reason maybe they grew up with it in there house hold. What if your parents smoked or your brothers and sisters? Would you feel like you had to smoke cause everyone else In your family does? Every little boy wants to be like there dad when there young if you saw your dad smoking wouldn't you think it was cool and want to? Maybe it's easier to accept the offer to smoke when you see your parents and family do it every day, there alive and don't seem to unhealthy and they do it, it couldn't be that bad. The percentage of people who smoke that have parents or older siblings smoke is higher than the people who's parents and siblings don't smoke.

There's many other possible reasons too though, could it be that you want to do it more because your not aloud to as a kid? The curiosity to smoke may be what ends up getting you to do it. If there was a piece of candy in your house in front of you everyday but you were not aloud to eat it wouldn't that make you want to eat it more? Or eventually when you were aloud to eat would you take that chance at the candy you just wanted to try for so long and eat it? Temptation of what you can't have or do can sometime be enough to make you get it or do it.

Some people say that do it to stay awake. If you were a truck driver and had to drive multiple hours a day even through out the night wouldn't you want to stay awake? You'd have to. A lot of people believe that smoking is one of the most effective ways to stay awake. So if something as simple and easy lighting a cigarette putting it in your mouth and inhaling and exhaling can help keep you awake for hours while driving on the road wouldn't you think of it as a easy and maybe the best solution and want to do it? So that could be another reason people pick up the habit if smoking to stay awake wether it's because of a long shift at work, driving a long distance for a really long time or any other reasons you'd need to stay awake.

Your feeling over weight and looking for easy solutions to lose a few pounds, you ask your friend how she or he lost those extra pounds and they tell you it happened when they started smoking. That sounds like a really easy way to stop, you don't have to go to the gym you don't have to do all those tiring work outs that take so much time out if your day all you have to do is smoke some cigarettes, no diets nothing just smoke sounds easy huh? Would you start smoking if you thought about it like that? It sounds much easier and less time consuming and just a better simpler solution that may cause you to start smoking. So maybe people start smoking to lose weight.

The fact of the matter is there are many reasons people start smoking even though they know it is bad for them.

Narrative

It was just like any other morning run, cold, foggy outside, misty dew on the grass. I tie my shoes put in my head phones and start and jogging. As I come to the end of the street, waiting for the cars from the morning work traffic to pass by I start thinking, about life, about my future, about all the workouts, drills, practices everything I do to try an accomplish my dreams. Are they enough? Am I really doing all I can to make sure that I make my dreams a reality? The cars a no longer there I can now cross the street, as I'm jogging across the street I'm still thinking about all these things, it starts to mess with me emotionally I feel inspired and motivated yet sad at the chance of not making it. I start to run faster. I kept running past the usual part that I turn around at, over the bridge and just keep going.

The thought of not making it in life not being successful, struggling to keep a car, house, food on the table was the worst feeling ever, literally making me sick to my stomach my whole body tingles at the thought. So I start to think to my self how can I prevent this, how can I guarantee that none of those things will happen, how can I secure my success and make my future care free money wise. Well the first step was instead of taking a year off of school like I originally planned I was going to enroll as soon as I got home. But my run wasn't over yet I still haven't turned around, I didn't even realize how far I was running since all this was on my mind and I just kept going and going, thinking and thinking.

When I finally got home after the longest run I've taken in a while I got on the computer and started looking about enrollment information for college. I'm not going to lie Columbus State was not my first choice. But I really had no option it was late in the summer and I really was running out of time.

I'm from Amarillo, Texas I lived there my whole life until a couple years ago when I moved to Ohio. When I was in Texas the middle of my 8th grade year I was getting into a lot of trouble with teacher, getting in a lot of fights ect. and was expelled from school. I then became home schooled. It was good and bad, for school and education wise it was way different and easier witch set me back knowledge wise and out me behind. But the good was that was when I started playing basketball. I went to the home schools team open gym with my cousin who was also home schooled and had a lot of fun. I continued going to those and by my freshman year I was playing for the high school team. I sat the bench the whole year that year the only time I played was the last minute or two of games when we were losing really bad. That inspired me cause I loved the game already but wanted to actually get to play. So that whole summer I worked out and practiced as much as I could everyday.
The next year sophomore year I started varsity.

When I moved I was still homeschooled for my junior year. Senior year I went to Thomas Worthington high school, but my credits didn't transfer right and I was in classes I didn't want to be in. I then became lazy and school and instead of trying to get the best grades I could I just tried to pass. I knew my grades weren't good enough to get into any big name colleges. This made me mad upset and feel like a failure.

When I finally got home after the longest run I've taken in a while I got on the computer and started looking about enrollment information for college. I'm not going to lie Columbus State was not my first choice. But I really had no option it was late in the summer and I really was running out of time. So I applied there and was accepted soon after. I'm glad I chose to go here and not wait the extra year. I feel like I have a second chance. I really want to play basketball for the school and when I transfer to a different school in a couple years play for them. I've tried to email the coach and find things out about how to play or try ours but he never replied.

I'm really glad I have this second chance to go to a big name school after Columbus State and glad I'm going here. This is a great second chance and I now feel great about my future.
